A day after two MLAs belonging to the rival factions of the AIADMK were caught on camera claiming that money and gold were offered to party legislators during their stay in Koovathur resort in February, the DMK on Tuesday approached the Madras High Court seeking a probe by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the allegations.
Senior counsel and former DMK Rajya Sabha MP R Shanmugasundaram made an urgent mention before the bench headed by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee seeking the intervention of the court to order a probe by the CBI or similar central organisations into the scandal as the money involved could be black money. However, the bench said that it would hear the matter on Friday if it was filed as a proper petition.

On Monday, TV footage of Madurai South MLA SS Saravanan belonging to former chief minister O Panneerselvam faction and Sulur MLA R Kanagaraj of the ruling AIADMK Amma faction admitting distribution of money ranging from Rs 2 crore to Rs 10 crore to the legislators during voting on confidence motion moved by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Saravanan, one of the MLAs caught on the tape, claimed on Tuesday that though he appeared in the video, the voice in it was a dubbed one. "Though I appear in the video, the voice is not mine. It is a dubbed voice. I have had consultations with the legal experts and am planning to file a criminal complaint," he said flanked by senior leader Natham R Viswanathan and C Ponnaiyan after his meeting with Panneerselvam.
Earlier, Panneerselvam said that he had sought an explanation from Saravanan on the TV sting operation.
The legislators' confession of horse trading by both the Sasikala and Panneerselvam factions in February will be taken up by the opposition DMK in the Tamil Nadu assembly which meets on Wednesday.
