A day after a bandh in Tamil Nadu over constitution of Cauvery management board, DMK-led parties on Friday decided to hold a Cauvery Rights Retrieval March starting today, akin to the farmers' march in Maharashtra last month.
DMK working president MK Stalin said the march would commence from two locations — from Mokkumbu in Trichy on April 7 and from Ariyalur on April 9 — to cover all Cauvery delta districts. "Leaders and cadres of DMK, MDMK, CPI (M), CPI, VCK, IUML and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi will take part in the padyatra, to be flagged off by Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani," Stalin said.
VCK general secretary D Ravikumar said that the two marches would come together at Chidambaram and conclude with a public meeting at Cuddalore on April 13. "Right after, all party leaders would meet Governor Banwarilal Purohit," he said.
A DMK leader said a large turnout is expected.
