Karnataka Home Minister K. J. George on Monday said that the handing over of the investigation into IAS officer DK Ravi's death to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was the first time in Indian history that a case was handed over to the agency with such speed.

"This is the first time in the history of India that after an incident has taken place, within seven-eight days, the case has been handed over to the CBI," George told the media.

"Whatever Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said, I believe in it and he took this decision after talking to the parents of IAS officer DK Ravi. Let the result of the probe come out in the open. We are waiting for the CBI report," he added.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah decided to hand over the case to the CBI.

Meanwhile, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has written to Ravi's wife, assuring her of a fair probe in the death case of her husband.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress president G Parameshwara had earlier on Saturday requested Siddaramaiah to order a CBI inquiry into the case and had said that the truth in this matter should come to the fore without any confusion.

Ravi, posted as Joint Commissioner in Commercial Tax Department, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his apartment by his wife on March 16. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide, though no note was found from around the officer's body.
