The Delhi government on Saturday came out with the guidelines for admissions to 298 schools built on DDA land, giving priority to neighbourhood criteria. The government also scrapped the controversial management quota.
As per the guidelines, schools shall first segregate applications from the 'first neighbourhood range (within1 km)', out of which priority would be given to candidates having siblings in the same school.
The notification issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) says that if the number of applications under the sibling category within the distance range exceeds the total number of seats, then candidates would be selected through a draw system.
If entries in the (0-1 km) siblings category are lesser, general category seats would be offered to candidates under the distance criteria.
"If the general category still remains unfilled, applications from the second distance range (1-3 km) will be given preference," said the notification. The leftover seats would then be given to students residing within a range of 3-6 km from the school.
"Students residing beyond 6 km shall be admitted only after all vacancies within the 6 km is exhausted," it clarified.
The DoE has also scrapped the management quota for admissions with an aim to bring transparency in the process. For minority schools, while a certain number of seats would be reserved for students from minority sections, the remaining seats will be treated as general seats and admission to these seats would be considered on the distance criteria.
Nursery admissions to over 1,400 private schools, under the DoE, started on January 2 after the guidelines were issued by the government.
The last date for filing admission forms is January 23 and the first list of selected students will be published by schools in February first week. The the second list will be out on February 28.
