Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu has responded to the entire Gurmehar Kaur controversy. In an interview to ANI, Naidu said that dissent is acceptable but not disintegration. In an apparent reference to Gurmehar Kaur, Union Minister said that, "Certain misguided sections are trying to mislead young population & create social tensions& hurt sentiments of ppl of India."

Naidu reiterated that,"Having a different opinion apart from majority opinion is agreeable but not disintegration. Nobody can advocate disintegration."  The Union Minister also asked, "How can anybody advocate aazadi for J&K. You want to make universities as labs for separatist experiments?".

Union Minister's outburst is in context to Ramjas college inviting Umar Khalid for a lecture which resulted in violent protest and clashed between ABVP and AISA. In response to the incident, Kargil martyr's son Gurmehar Kaur spoke out against ABVP. This has resulted in massive spat on social media with even cricketer Virendra Sehwag and actor Randeep Hooda joining the conversation. MoS Home Kiren Rijiju also spoke out against 'anti-national' elements.

Days after DU's Ramjas college saw violent clashes, a Lady Sri Ram College student who is a Kargil martyr's daughter has initiated a social media campaign, "I am not scared of ABVP", which has gone viral. Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, changed her Facebook profile picture holding a placard which read "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP".

"The brutal attack on innocent students by ABVP is very disturbing and should be stopped. It was not an attack on protesters, but an attack on every notion of democracy that is held dear in every Indian's heart. It is an attack on ideals, morals, freedom and rights of every person born to this nation," she said in a Facebook status. "The stones that you pelt hit our bodies, but fail to bruise our ideas. This profile picture is my way of protesting against the tyranny of fear," she added.
