Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today requested Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao to disqualify 21 MLAs, who defected from the YSR Congress to TDP, before the Legislature begins its functioning from the new capital Amaravati.

"Discharge your constitutional duties and disqualify the 21 MLAs, who jumped over to the TDP from my party and see that the new Legislature opens without any blot," the YSR Congress president said in an open letter to the Speaker.

"You may be an MLA of the TDP, but we request you to respect the Constitution and the people's verdict," Jagan said, reiterating his charge that the ruling party "purchased" his legislators by spending hundreds of crores of rupees.

"The defectors are akin to stolen property as per the Constitution and we had so far requested you many times to disqualify them. But you are making a mockery of democracy by not taking a decision on these MLAs and allowing them into the Assembly," the YSRC chief alleged.

Lashing out at Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the Leader of Opposition said the former "ran away" from Hyderabad after he was caught "red-handed" in the note-for-vote scandal.

"That's the main reason why Chandrababu displayed such haste in building a temporary Secretariat and the Legislature complex in Amaravati region. You are well aware of this," Jagan said in the letter to the Speaker.
