West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is in Delhi and meeting leaders of various political parties to drum up support against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the run-up to 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Disgruntled BJP leaders--Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie, and, Shatrughan Sinha met Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.

"She is an old Cabinet colleague. She is a good person and saving the nation," said Yashwant Sinha while addressing the media in the presence of Mamata Banerjee.

"Nation is larger than the political party," said Shatrughan Sinha.

"Control of the BJP is now moving from Narendra Modi to Amit Shah," said Arun Shourie.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee met Shiv Sena, a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), in an effort to forge a larger alliance to confront BJP in Lok Sabha polls 2019.

“We want all opposition parties to work together. We should help the strongest opposition party in states to fight the BJP. It should be one fight. If Mayawatiji and Akhilesh (Yadav) are strong in Uttar Pradesh, they should work together. We should help them,” Banerjee said after her meetings on Tuesday.

“People are against the BJP. I have travelled to all the states. I know the mood of the people. Issues like demonetisation, GST (goods and services tax), bank fraud have affected people even at the grassroot level. The time has come for this BJP to pack up and go,” she added. Banerjee’s visit adds new momentum to the Opposition’s effort to explore the possibilities of cobbling together an anti-BJP front in the 2019 polls.
