Keeping in view the festive season ahead, the Bapunagar police have come up with unique idea of keeping a tab on anti-social elements in the region.

Apart from their regular patrolling during rush hours, it will also do video surveillance through digital video recording and other cameras at 11 places under its jurisdiction.

Bapunagar is an important business hub of the city as diamond trading and polishing, embroidery and other cottage industries have flourished in the area. Apart from this, the area has population of around 4 lakh. “To provide increased security, we are going to start video shooting at 11 places. We aim to provide security to the people during rush hours and festive season,” police inspector of Bapunagar, MH Sheikh said.

Video shooting with digital cameras will be carried out in areas where there is heavy rush and public gathering. Areas like Bapunagar char rasta, Bhidbhanjan char rasta, India Colony char rasta, Thakker nagar cross roads and diamond market will be under the video surveillance. “We are going to shoot in these areas between 5 pm to 10 pm everyday,” Shekh added.

According to police, special team of three police personnel has been formed for the purpose which will mix with the public in civil dress during the surveillance period.

“The exercise will also help us to capture those pick picketers and other thieves who are absconding from police,” he added.
