On Saturday, Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani wished PM Modi a happy birthday. But what was really interesting was a revelation that the younger Ambani sibling made. Anil Ambani said his father and legendary industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani reportedly predicted in the early 90s that Narendra Modi would become the prime minister. When the industrialist met Modi before he became Gujarat CM, Dhirubhai Ambani said: “"Lambi race no ghodo chhe. Leader chche (He’s a horse for the long run. A true leader.)"

Anil revealed that after a ‘long, intense conversation’ with the Modi, Dhirubhai remarked that Narendra Modi would one day become Prime Minister.  Anil wrote: “As ever, Papa was simple, direct - and prophetic! Papa would have been smiling in heaven that his prophecy as usual had come true."

Anil also said that in the words of his father, Narendra Modi ‘dreams with his eyes open’ and with Arjun-like clarity and purpose.

Anil Ambani wrote about the PM in a testimonial:

Today is the birthday of our beloved Prime Minister Narendrabhai. I recall the time I first met him in the 1990s, when my father, Padma Vibhushan Dhirubhai Ambani, invited him home for dinner. At the end of their long intense conversation, and he left, Papa remarked: “Lambi race no ghodo chhe". "Leader chhe" – "PM banse” – He’s a thoroughbred for the long run. A true leader! He will be Prime Minister!

As ever, Papa was simple, direct – and prophetic! In 2014, when the country chose Narendrabhai to be Prime Minister, it was a defining moment in our history and Papa would have been smiling from heaven that his prophecy as usual had come true. It is a tribute to Narendrabhai’s leadership that India now stands transformed as a nation where cynicism has made way for pride, inertia for efficiency and red-tape for corruption-free decision making.

Narendrabhai has been described in many ways. My personal favorite comes from a literal reading of his name. In Sanskrit, ‘Nara’ means man and ‘Indra’ king or leader. Narendrabhai, in other words, is a leader of leaders, and a king of kings. In the words of my father Narendrabhai "dreams with his eyes open" and with Arjuna like clarity of vision and purpose.

Today, as Narendrabhai turns 66 and the nation celebrates his birthday, the Ambani family considers itself truly blessed that we have had the good fortune to know Narendrabhai personally. My mother Kokilaben, my wife Tina, and sons Anmol and Anshul join over a billion fellow Indians in prayer: “May God continue to give him the strength and wisdom to lead us from strength to strength and conquer greater heights for our country - India - Bharat".

Jai Hind.
