The Shahu Nagar police on Sunday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping a housewife and circulating a video clip showing both of them in a compromising position. The woman's husband filed a complaint after he received the clip on his mobile phone late on Saturday night.

According to the police, the woman is a resident of Shahu Nagar slums in Dharavi and her husband sells idlis for a living. They said the accused, Mahesh Janpal Nadar, owns a pan-bidi stall next to a house where the woman lived until recently.

Nadar, 30, would visit the woman's house regularly after her husband left for work in the morning. Nadar began an affair with the woman and the relationship continued for some months before her husband got a wind of it. The complainant then changed his residence.

However, Nadar landed up at the woman's new house and started making sexual demands to which she refused. He also had an argument with her husband and threatened to spread video clips showing him, said the police.

An officer from Shahu Nagar police station said "The woman's husband approached us after he received an obscene clip. We registered a case of rape under the IPC and relevant sections of the IT Act. But Nadar has managed to delete the clips from his phone, which we are trying to procure by sending it to the Kalina Forensic Laboratory."
