“Development” missing from JMC general body meeting agenda

As usual General body meeting of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Thursday is, likely to be stormy. It is highly unlikely that development or public related issues would be discussed in tomorrow’s meeting because the sole agenda for the meeting is sanitation system in the city.

The last meeting too had similar agenda. So far, every general body meeting has remained inconclusive but this time not having development issue in the agenda is quite surprising. It’s been three years but projects taken up in the first two meetings are yet to take shape on ground.

Notwithstanding the agenda, the councilors are expected to create ruckus over personal issues as they will have nothing else to discuss.

Mayor Ashok Lahoty who was publicly rebuked by UDH minister Sri Chand Kriplani over poor sanitation system in the city is, likely to be target of not just opposition Congress councilors but from his own party members.

It’s been nine months but he has failed to constitute committees, which is a major cause of dissent among BJP councilors. On the other hand, the Congress held a meeting to discuss issues to corner the Mayor and came up routine issues like poor sanitation, street light and sewer system.

However, the Mayor has cited code of conduct as reason for not having development issues on the agenda. “There is election in ward 76. The state election commission has given permission to discuss only sanitation matter. Even Prime Minister and chief minister have focus on sanitation. This is main work of the JMC so we will discuss sanitation in the meeting,” Lahoty said.

Unfortunately, every general body meeting of the JMC is being marred by pandemonium. the voters elected BJP board hoping that having same party at all levels of the government would iron out differences and expedite development work but so far they have been let down. Even the opposition seems to prefer ruckus over real issues.
