Extremely upset over the shoe hurled at him inside the Punjab Assembly, Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Wednesday trained his guns on the Congress and said this act reflected the desperation and restlessness of the grand old party, which is eventually losing its ground in the state.
"Whatever happened today shows Congress' desperation and restlessness. They asked for debate and brought no confidence motion. There was no need for a no confidence motion. But because the Congress Party was desperate and wanted to speak, Badal ji accepted it. The Congress has its member in the Business Advisory Committee. It was decided who will get how much time," Majithia told the media here.
The Revenue Minister said that the Congress MLAs indulged in frivolous talks instead of starting the debate. "The Speaker tried a lot to bring the debate to track...but they ran away from the debate. Investigate whether alcohol has been brought here or not...from where did I get to know? The people in the assembly are saying this. I want to ask those who talk about the House decorum that do they endorse all these," he added.
Majithia alleged that this unwarranted act can only be done those who have lost their 'mental balance'.
"They are accusing the Speaker of being anti-Dalit. The Congress is fast losing its ground and we might see such desperate steps from them in near future also," he added.
A shoe was hurled at Majithia earlier today while the protesting Congress MLAs, who wanted a no-confidence motion to be taken up, threw papers at the Assembly Speaker as the House saw uproarious scenes on the concluding day of the Monsoon Session. he shoe flung from the opposition benches fell just short of where Majithia was seating.
The protesting Congress MLAs also threw documents including pages from some CAG reports at Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, who had to be protected by House staff. The opposition Congress members raised their demand before the Zero Hour could be resumed. Heated exchanges were witnessed between the ruling Akali-BJP benches and the Congress members. The Congress members raised slogans against the government inside the House and created a ruckus demanding that time be allotted to them for discussion.
Some of them rushed to the well of the House and as the ruckus continued, the Speaker adjourned the Question Hour for fifteen minutes. When the House re-assembled, the Congress members continued their protest in the well.
