Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday spoke with the chief ministers of Haryana and Punjab and asked them to restore peace in the states.
Cutting short his Kyrgistan trip, the Home Minister spoke to both Manohar Lal Khattar and Amarinder Singh and assured them of all help in the wake of widespread violence after the conviction of controversial Godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
After the meeting, Rajnath Singh issued an appeal for peace. He urged Dera supporters to maintain calm.
“I appeal to all to maintain peace. Any harm to life and property due to this unrest cannot be compensated with any amount of money,” Singh said.
“I also spoke to IB Chief and Home Secretary. I appeal that Dera supporters should maintain peace,” Singh said.
“Forces have been deployed, as per the requests from the State Governments,” Singh said.
According to reports, Singh will brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the violence.
