The Deoband ulemas or clerics have issued a fatwa against life insurance policies claiming that acquiring such policies and buying insured property is 'un-Islamic'.

While responding to a query by a Ghaziabad-based man, the bench of ulemas said that life and death are in the hands of Allah and no insurance company can guarantee that.

According to a TOI report, the fatwa read: "Life and death are in the hands of Allah and no insurance company can guarantee a man's longevity. On the contrary, these insurance companies invest the premium paid by the purchaser of the policy and earn interest on the same, later distributing some of it among their clients. And any income earned through interest is haram (forbidden)."

Maulana Najif Ahmad, the head cleric of Madrasa Darul Niswah, said the fatwas has been issued keeping in mind of Islamic Shariat that clearly indicates that a Muslim should not put faith in any insurance company, but Allah as God is only responsible for our life and death.

Earlier, the Deoband ulemas issued several fatwas including against women who wear designer burqas and 'body-hugging' outfit is not allowed in Islam and is considered a 'haram'.

"Veil and burqa are supposed to protect a woman from prying eyes. So, a woman wearing designer burqa or body-hugging outfit is strictly not allowed in Islam," the fatwa read.

In another incident, th freedom of Muslim women in the country was curtailed further by the Darul Uloom Deoband when it imposed a ban on Muslim women uploading their photos, including selfies, on social media platforms.

The fatwa was issued when a Muslim man sought to know if his wife can post and upload her pictures on social media. In response to the question, Darul Iftaa opined that Islam does not allow Muslim women to show their faces in public.

“Islam does not allow Muslim women to be photographed. Uploading and posting their picture on Facebook, Whatsapp etc is against the tenets of Islam and Sharia. They are not allowed to show their faces to other males,” Mufti Tarikh Qashmi said.
