Dense smog continued to engulf the national capital for the second day on Wednesday, leaving people gasping for breath.

As a choking blanket of smog enveloped the national capital, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia declared closure of all schools till Sunday.

"Can't compromise with the health of children. All schools including private and government will remain closed till Sunday for all the classes," Sisodia said in a series of tweets.

The Indian Medical Association had appealed to the government to stop outdoor sports and other such activities in schools to protect the health of children.

On Tuesday, among a series of sweeping measures, parking fees were hiked four-fold.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought a meeting with his counterparts in Punjab and Haryana to discuss measures to bring down the alarming pollution levels.

"Am writing letters to CMs of Punjab and Haryana requesting them for a meeting to find solution to crop burning," Kejriwal tweeted.

The Delhi government had also issued a health advisory for high risk people, including children, the elderly, pregnant women and those suffering from asthma and heart ailments.

The EPCA has directed the municipal bodies in the region to immediately enhance parking fees by four times and instructed the Delhi Metro to lower fares during off-peak hours for at least 10 days, introduce more coaches and ensure frequent services.
