Disgruntlement still runs high among Gujarat Congress’s rank and file. If the 3,000-odd leaders and workers of the Grand Old Party who attended a solidarity meeting called under leadership of Congress dissident leader Narhari Amin on Sunday, is anything to measure the simmering angst, it speaks volumes about the widening rift.

Majority of the leaders who assembled at SG Highway, were unanimous that denial of a ticket to a potential winning candidate is part of the conspiracy to facilitate Narendra Modi’s easy win in the state. Due to injustice, Congress will not be able to reach close to forming government in the state, the local and central leaders echoed.

Congress dissidents milled in from all corners of the state to show their solidarity with Amin and lambaste the party high command and local leaders for injustice meted out to party workers. The leaders alleged that Congress has lost its power due to nepotism and caste-based politics and this is why it has to sit in the opposition for 17 years. The dissident leaders also opined that the four big leaders of Gujarat Congress do not present a true picture before Sonia Gandhi and Rahul who are being kept in the dark about ground reality in Gujarat. Interestingly, the meeting smacked heavily of pure discontentment arising out of being denied ticket by the party.

Surprisingly, their bark seemed worse than their bite as the senior leaders seemed to be restraining themselves from going too much out of sync. The young brigade was, however, asked to attack and humiliate Congress leaders in public so that they will not dare to come out in public once again.

Leader of Congress dissidents in Gujarat, Narhari Amin appealed all the Congress dissidents not to work for the party or its candidate in the assembly election. He said that Congress high command has not followed criteria in distribution of tickets and favouritism is quite clear in distribution. “Instead of giving tickets to local candidates, the party has fielded three sitting MPs. Moreover, it has also given tickets to father-son duo and brothers, which clearly shows nepotism,” Amin lambasted.

Asking workers not to work for Congress party candidates, Amin said that they will chart their future course of action after consulting top leaders among the dissidents.
