Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's party JD(U) has decided to not be a part of 'Akrosh Diwas', to be observed on Monday, in a meeting held by senior leaders on Saturday. "JD(U) had made it clear that it is supportive of demonetization move; so it won't be part of the 'bandh'," Pawan Varma, JD(U) General Secretary said.

"We have supported the government's policy of demonetization from day one. Nitish Kumar has said that any move to curb black money and corruption will be supported," JD (U) General Secretary Pavan Varma said.

However, he added that the implementation of demonetization could have been done in a better way. "We would like demonetization and such steps to go beyond to curb gold, bullion, benami properties and others," he said.

"All political parties are free to pursue their own political agenda and Nitish Kumar has spoken both to Lalu Prasad Yadav and the president of the Congress in Bihar about it," he added.

Kumar has been vocal about his support to PM Narendra Modi's demonetization drive. "I support demonetization as I'm convinced that it will help in the fight against black money," Kumar said addressing a function to mark Prohibition Day in Patna. He had also called the decision to demonetize higher currency notes a 'bold move'.

While RJD has categorically stated its opposition to the move stating Kumar's support does not reflect the sentiments of the grand-alliance ruling in Bihar.

The opposition parties will launch a country-wide protest 'Akrosh Diwas' on November 28 over the BJP-led NDA regime's demonetization move. This come as the deadlock continues in Parliament with the government refusing to agree to a discussion in the Lok Sabha that ends in a vote.

The ruling dispensation has rejected the opposition's demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak in the Rajya Sabha, where the ruling party is in a minority.
