The extravagant wedding celebrations of the daughter of former BJP minister and mining baron G Janardhana Reddy has been making news, amidst PM Modi's demonetization announcement.

According to an Economic Times report, the I-T department is now probing into the funding of the wedding and Reddy's alleged tax evasions after a complaint filed by a senior advocate from Bengaluru. T Narasimha Murthy alleged that around Rs 650 crore was being spent on the four-day event. Seeking to know the source of the funding, he alleged that Reddy has evaded taxes.

In his complaint Murthy says, "Reddy was released from prison in 2015, after serving a five-year jail sentence in illegal mining cases. Besides expensive cars and choppers, Reddy and his wife Lakshmi Aruna's immovable assets, worth around Rs 70 crore, have been seized. Still he has managed to invest crores of rupees in his daughter's wedding. How can this be possible?"

Several VVIPs, including PM Modi, CM Siddaramaiah and union ministers were also invited for the wedding.

Reddy's daughter Bramhani will be tying the knot with businessman Rajeev Reddy on Wednesday at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru. Temples of Hampi and Reddy's house and school in Bellary have reportedly been recreated at the venue.

On November 8, PM Modi had declared that Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes would not be considered legal tender. In later announcements, it was also made clear that action would be taken against those who declare more than Rs 2.5 lakh of undeclared amount.
