The Election Commission on Thursday rejected a demand of the Aam Aadmi Party to put up awareness banners outside polling stations on February 7 when Delhi votes to elect its new Assembly.

In a letter to AAP, EC said the party had requested the Commission to display voter awareness banners outside polling stations.

"...Your request for allowing you to display the awareness banners outside every polling stations at booths of political party has not been accepted," it said.

EC said it has already put in place adequate and elaborate measures, including display of posters for voter awareness to ensure conduct of free, fair and smooth election.

AAP had approached EC for banners claiming that EVMs can be rigged to favour BJP. EC had yesterday rejected his apprehension, saying the machines are "non-tamperable."
