Delhi: Youth arrested for cheating persons at ATMs

A 29-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly cheating innocent persons at the ATMs in Delhi. According to the police, accused Ashu Nain was arrested yesterday after an official of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Paschim Vihar here suspected him of wrongdoing while he was operating an ATM machine there.

They said that during the investigation one mobile phone, seven ATM debit card, one shopping cash card and some bills have been recovered from the possession of accused.

Detailing the modus operandi of the accused and his accomplices, police said they used to take position outside the ATM cabins and wait for any person who could not operate ATM. They would then offer to help.
"After taking money, they would change the ATM debit card of the customer and remember the PIN code. They used to give another debit card to the customer after drawing the money.

Later on, they would withdraw the cash from the account of innocent person by using the PIN as well as genuine debit card," Ranvir Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police of West District, said. Singh said that police also conducted a raid at the house of co-accused Akhil Arora but he escaped.
