The new academic session for lakhs of students began in Delhi University (DU) on Monday putting an end to the row over the Four Year Undergraduate programme (FYUP).  To clear the confusion among students over the course structure, orientation programmes are being held for them by the colleges affiliated to the universities.

The admissions for the undergraduate programmes for the university began after a delay earlier this month after the rollback of the FYUP undergraduate programme.

Around 2.7 lakh applicants had applied for admission in academic session 2014-15 in Delhi University for 54,000 seats in 61 affiliated colleges.

However, the varsity's attempt to rush the proceedings to ensure the commencement of the academic session as per schedule invited criticism from various quarters including Delhi University's Teachers Association (DUTA).

"After sleeping over the restructuring of courses for the 2013 FYUP batch since the 'rollback' announced by him on 27th June, the VC finally called a meeting of the Academic Council to finalise courses just two days before the new session," DUTA president Nandita Narain said.

Following the controversy, fresh admissions to Delhi University for the 2014-15 academic session under the three-year course commenced from July 2, a week behind the schedule.
