Two persons were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in broad daylight at Central Delhi's Rajender Nagar today. The deceased have been identified as Ram Charan, who was in his early 40s, and Lakhan Lal (52). The incident took place around 9:18 AM in the market area near Shankar Road in Rajender Nagar when the duo had reached there to have their morning cup of tea at a shop. Suddenly, three people reached there on a motorbike and opened fire at them from close range.

"Ram Charan died on the spot while Lakhan Lal was rushed to B L Kapoor hospital in an unconscious state where he succumbed to his injuries," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Parmaditya.

Initial investigation revealed that Ram Charan was a witness in a case pending in Tis Hazari court and the attack could be linked to it, police sources said. A case of murder has been registered at Rajender Nagar Police Station and several teams have been formed to arrest the assailants.

CCTV footage of the area is being screened to identify the attackers, police said.
