Aiming to prevent flood-like situation in the capital, a meeting of all stakeholders in the city's civic and police administration was convened on Friday to ensure arrangements are in place before the monsoon season.

The various bodies that met included the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Irrigation & Flood Department, Public Works Department, Delhi Traffic Police and Delhi Jal Board.

North Delhi Mayor Yogendra Chandolia, who headed the meeting, asked officials about the progress in desilting of drains in the areas under their jurisdiction as well other arrangements to meet the situation arising due to monsoon rains, North Corporation Public Relations Officer Yogendra Singh Mann said.

Chandolia was apprised by the officials that the desilting work in the jurisdiction of each department was almost complete but the officials of some departments could not produce the Action Taken Report (ATR) in support of their claims, Mann said.

Chandolia has asked them to come with the reports in the future meetings convened by his office. The next meeting is scheduled for June 12.

The ACP Traffic informed that every year the sensitive points are the same and informed to the bodies concerned for remedial and timely action to avoid any inconvenience due to water logging but the warranted actions needs to be taken yet.

Chandolia also asked the Superintending Engineers of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to coordinate with other departments concerned for managing vulnerable points in the rainy season which are prone to water stagnation.

He also directed them to jointly inspect the areas to take stock of the situation so that the required arrangements can be put in place in time.

"Each and every possible step should be taken to prevent the waterlogging during rainy season which causes inconvenience to the citizens at large and puts the life of Delhiites out of gear," Chandolia said

The Mayor also said that he will also apprise the the Delhi Lt Governor of the situation and arrangements made by different bodies.
