Delhi polls: BJP will win two-thirds majority, says Amit Shah

"I do not see this as an isolated case. BJP has given opportunities to many who have established track-records in their fields like Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Chetan Chauhan, BC Khanduri, Navjot Singh Sidhu. Kiran Bedi's image of someone adept at fighting crime and corruption will be beneficial for the party," said Amit Shah.

Discounting the recent opinion polls that gave the Aam Aadmi Party a slight edge in the Feb 7 Delhi elections, BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday said his party will win two-thirds majority in the assembly. In an exclusive interview with Sudhir Chaudhary, Zee News editor, in New Delhi. Shah also defended his party's decision to nominate Kiran Bedi as chief ministerial candidate saying that the BJP has given new faces a chance in the elections not only in Delhi but elsewhere as well.

"I do not see this as an isolated case. BJP has given opportunities to many who have established track-records in their fields like Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Chetan Chauhan, BC Khanduri, Navjot Singh Sidhu. Kiran Bedi's image of someone adept at fighting crime and corruption will be beneficial for the party," he said.

“Kiran Bedi enjoys a good image. She has worked against crime and corruption in Delhi. Her candidature for CM's post will only help the party,” said Shah, who has a good track record of winning elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana and taking his party's tally to the highest-ever level in Jammu & Kashmir.

Taking swipe at Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP chief said it was ironical that the AAP leader was expecting a pass for the Republic Day parade whereas he claims he is opposed to VIP culture. “One who considers himself an aam aadmi could have witnessed the parade sitting with the common man," Shah said.

He said in 2013 polls, the AAP was new, and people were not aware of it and its leadership. But now the party and its leaders stand exposed.

“The people of Delhi now know the real face of Kejriwal, who would say say a thing one day and deny it the next. He promised so many things to the people of Delhi but couldn’t deliver anything,” said Shah, who is micro-managing his party's campaign in Delhi.

Unveiling his party's strategy for winning Delhi elections, Shah said, “Every day the party (BJP) will field five questions to Arvind Kejriwal. The party members will also visit 30 to 40 families daily till the last date of campaigning in order to garner maximum votes,” he said.

On the question of US president Barack Obama's visit being a factor in Delhi elections, Shah said that the good work done by the Centre helps in elections. “The benefit of the highly successful visit of the US president will certainly help the party,” he said.
