Delhi Police on Monday said that it is working on definite clues to solve the case in which Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Bharat Singh and two of his personal security officers were shot at in Delhi’s Najafgarh area.

Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi downplayed the speculation that the incident was part of a ‘gang-war’ in the area, saying that such criminal incidents are a result of disputes between individuals. “We are working on some definite clues. The officers of south-west district are working on this case. Apart from this our crime branch and special cell is also helping them. We are hopeful that we will nab the assailants soon,” Bassi told media persons.

“I would not like to term it as gang-war but I will say that there are certain old enmities between certain groups and there have been some incidents involving these persons. These kind of old enmities exist in the rural pockets of Delhi, one shouldn’t look at these incidents as gang-wars. These criminal incidents are a result of certain disputes between individuals,” he added.

Singh was shot dead earlier on Sunday when some unidentified persons opened fire in Najafgarh area of the capital. Two of Singh's associates were also critically injured in the mishap, which took place at around 8.10 p.m.
According to reports, Singh was attending a programme in the area, from where he was elected MLA in 2009. The condition of two personal security officers is said to be critical. A similar attack had taken place on Singh in June 2012 as well.
