A national level Karate player was allegedly beaten up by a group of men last evening in North Delhi's Burari area when she thrashed one of them for molesting her.

The incident took place in Sant Nagar area of Burari when the 24-year-old woman was returning from her Karate academy.

"The accused, a local shopkeeper who was later identified as Rajesh Gupta (28) passed objectionable comments on the girl and when she took objection, caught her hand. Being trained in Karate, the girl overpowered Gupta and thrashed him," said a police official.

Gupta then called up his friends and they ganged up to beat up the girl. When the victim's coach, who had reached the spot after he got a call from the girl, tried to intervene, he too was roughed up.

On the complaint of the victim, police have registered a case under section 354 (molestation) and the prime accused has been arrested.

"We have also identified his accomplices and they too will be nabbed soon. Further investigations are on," the official said. Meanwhile, the victim's family claimed that the police was initially trying to hush up the matter and had asked them to settle the matter through mutual consent. The police denied these allegations.
