Metro services were hit for around half an hour on the Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre - Yellow Line - after some passengers reported fire in a moving train between Arjangarh and Ghitorni.

The incident took place at around 1:04 pm when passengers noticed sparks and smoke emanating from the last coach of the moving metro train. They alerted the driver who applied the emergency brakes and the train was halted between the two metro stations and the passengers deboarded the train.

However, on checking it was found that no fire had taken place.

"The train has been withdrawn from service for checking. Prima facie, as per reports received, some sparking/flashing had taken place in the rear car which caused a little panic among passengers. There was no unsafe situation at any stage," a Metro spokesperson said.

As a precaution and safety measure, train movement was immediately stopped on this section. Normalcy on Line-2 was restored at 1:35 pm, he added.

"Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot following a call about the incident," said a senior Delhi Fire Service official.
