The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has removed the token selling counters from 70 of the 164 operational Metro stations in the city.
Ticket counters will be removed from more metro stations and will only have Token Vending Machines (TVMs) to dispense tickets, reported Hindustan Times quoting officials.
Officials said the main agenda is to promote the use of machines installed at Metro Stations and to reduce human interference.
The move by the authority comes after passengers complained of being cheated by the ticket counter operators by not returning exact change often.
Delhi Metro has 216 token vending machines and is in the process of adding 215 more. Each ticket vending machine costs around Rs 15 lakh, the report said quoting sources.
The stations where token counters have already been removed are Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Jor Bagh, Akshardham and Mayur Vihar I.
