BJP ultimately succeeded in scripting its political course in Delhi. The party has managed to delay announcing fresh elections by about two months.

With two big political parties, BJP and AAP not ready to form the government, the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung is now going to announce fresh elections.

While both AAP and Congress want elections in Delhi to take place along with Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir, BJP wants the elections to be pushed to a later date.

Sources in Election Commission said elections in Delhi will be announced in the last week of December and will take place early next year.

After Haryana and Maharashtra, BJP now wants to concentrate on Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand which will be going to polls later this month, and will puts its resources in Delhi only after elections in the two states are over. BJP wants at least two months time to prepare itself.

In an action packed day on Monday, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung met the senior leaders of all three parties to know their stance on government formation in Delhi.

BJP Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay and Jagdish Mukhi told the L-G that BJP was not interested in forming a minority government in Delhi. Haroon Yusuf of Congress and Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia of AAP
also told the LG that they wanted a fresh poll in Delhi. Both AAP and Congress also apprised the L-G that they were ready to go to polls with Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

AAP had gone back to the people of Delhi soon after Lok Sabha elections and has already started mobilizing its volunteers and supporter. The Congress with only eight seats in Delhi and with a very low morale amongst the partymen has not much to lose. It is the BJP that needs time to prepare itself for elections. "We have told the L-G that we do not want to form a minority government in Delhi. It was for the L-G and center to decide on election dates," said Upadhyay.

Delhi assembly has been in suspended animation, after Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government resigned after 49 days rule in February. The state has been under President Rule since then.

Both AAP and Congress had been demanding the L-G to intervene and call for fresh elections. However, central leadership in BJP did not want an election in Delhi any time soon. "By any chance, if we failed to score well in Delhi, it would have reflected on the other state elections. But we have done well in two assemblies and are confident of doing well in the other two poll bound states. A positive sentiment will continue to prevail in Delhi," explained a senior BJP leader.

The AAP, meanwhile, demanded that elections in Delhi to be held with other states on November 25. The by-polls for three seats that were announced by the election commission are now likely to be called off.

Election commission, sources however, announced that elections will be announced for Delhi only after December 25, when the counting for other poll bound states is over. "We are yet to receive a formal confirmation from the Center. Our action will start only after the assembly is dissolved," said a senior officer of the Delhi Election Commission.

Going by the book, Election Commission will announce the election, only after counting of votes is over for Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. The elections in Delhi will only take place in the last week of January or the first week of February.
