Delhi: ICD Tughlakabad area cordoned off after suspicious containers found

The area has been sealed and an investigation is on.

The Inland Container Depot (ICD) Tughlakabad in Delhi has been closed off since last evening because of the about 40 suspicious containers. A source from the Intelligence agency has informed that these suspicious containers arrived at ICD, Tughlakabad, on Friday evening.
 
DRI sources told DNA on the condition of anonymity, that there is a possibility of some illegal and dangerous stuff in these containers, though they have not revealed more details.
 
Police has cordoned off the whole ICD area to avoid any mishaps. Sources said that the movement of employees has also been restricted in the area.

CBI has also joined the raid and all ICD movements have been put on hold due to DRI and CBI Joint raid at Tughlakabad. More than 500 police with DRI are present in the area. All trains/trucks are on hold and all import deliveries have been stopped from CFS as well as from Chennai and Kattupalli terminals. 

Some intelligence information has also been received about contraband imports. The DG Shipping has asked DRI to investigate. All imports cleared from March 1 till Friday are being scrutinised. Several containers that have the declaration of paper and newsprint have been detained. Unconfirmed sources said the containers are loaded with massive amounts of fake notes or explosives. However, no official announcement has been made yet. 

ICD, Tughlakabad situated near Okhla Industrial Area, Delhi is one of the largest hubs of multi-modal transport in the Indian sub-continent. It is spread over 44 hectares of land which facilitated the need of importers and exporters in the country. Four full length rail lines are laid on the Customs area which bring the containers by train from Gateway ports such as Mumbai, Nhava Sheva, Chennai, besides bringing the containers by road from other ports such as Haldia, Calcutta and Kandla, etc.
