A mystery shrouds the anti-graft advertisements in the Capital with the Delhi government denying having issued them. The ad campaign saying "35 officers arrested and 152 suspended" is now under the scanner and the government is likely to order a probe. The Delhi government's information and publicity department said it has not issued any such advertisement. In an RTI reply on July 22 which was accessed by dna, it said "no advertisement for "35 officers arrested and 152 suspended" has been issued.
The RTI was routed from chief secretary to vigilance department and anti-corruption Bureau and finally the Directorate of Information & Publicity has cleared that they have not issued this advertisement. A top Delhi police official told dna that this was a classic case and it will investigate how such 'misleading and fake' advertisements have been put up. The Delhi government's anti-corruption department, which is supposed to run anti-corruption helpline '1031', also said that they had no idea about such advertisements. Even they don't have any information regarding 152 suspended officers. It means Delhi government has not issued these advertisements.
If not Delhi government, Then who has put up the advertisements in public places of Delhi? After denying about the advertisement, RTI activist and tax advocate J K Mittal has posed this question before BS Bassi, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, in his letter dated 28th August 2015. An RTI application had been filed on first June to get information about financial details and agencies who released this advertisement. In response of details about advertisement issued in the print media, radio channels and advertisement issued through hoarding/banner-pamphlets sign board about helpline number 1031 as well as about "35 officers arrested and 152 suspended" advertisement. But Delhi government has categorically denied issuing the advertisement.
RTI activist turned chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal had launched an ant-corruption helpline '1031' on the eve of compilation of 100 days in power. The content of advertisement was also not authenticated as established by another RTI which filed by Vivek Garg. The RTI shows that the claimed numbers were exaggerated. Delhi government said in an earlier RTI reply that till 10 May 2015, only 282 calls and FIR was registered and only 7 persons arrested.
