The Supreme Court on Tuesday disposed Aam Aadmi Party's plea for holding election in Delhi after Centre informed it that the assembly has been dissolved.

Refusing to ask the poll panel to fix election schedule at the earliest, the apex court said that the Election Commission will now take over.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had pulled up Centre and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung for the delay in taking decision regarding government formation in Delhi. But later, expressed satisfaction over his moves to explore the possibility of government formation.

However, on November 5, President Pranab Mukherjee had dissolved the Delhi legislative assembly, following which the Election Commission of India revoked the notification for by-polls to three Delhi assembly seats, which had been scheduled for November 25.

Ending the eight-month-long political uncertainty, Union Cabinet on November 4 had approved dissolution of Delhi assembly, which had paved the way for holding of fresh polls in the capital which is under President's Rule since February after the AAP government quit after ruling for 49 days.
