The excise department of the Delhi government today ordered a probe after a video clip surfaced purportedly showing that a liquor shop in North Delhi's Nathupura area charging customers more than maximum retail price (MRP).

A senior government official said the department had directed its field officer to probe the matter and submit a report at the earliest.

"We are waiting for the report and if liquor shop is found violating laid down rules, the department will seal it," the official said.

In a purported video, a liquor shop near Nathupura Crossing was seen charging a customer more than MRP on bottles of beer.

In 2015, the department had launched a mobile application -- mLiquorSaleCheck -- to check the authenticity of liquor customers buy.

The App enables users to scan the unique barcode, which is pasted on every bottle. The scan reveals details such as the brand name, size, etc.
