A clash broke out this evening between AAP and Congress workers in north-west Delhi's Model Town area, police said on Friday. According to police, both groups have registered FIRs against each other following the incident, which came on the eve of Delhi polls.

Police said that the clash took place after AAP volunteers alleged that some Congress workers were distributing liquor in the slums in the area. Congress, however, denied the allegations. "Based on the complaints filed by both the groups, two FIRs have been registered over the incident," said a senior police official.

He said that police will question locals to establish the sequence of events leading to the clash. "The matter was reported in the evening and we have informed the Election Commission about it," he said.

AAP's candidate for the Model Town seat, Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, suffered injuries to his stomach in the clash and is recuperating at a hospital.
