Shatabdi Express trains are supposed to be among the the finest trains run by the Indian Railways. However, over a period of time, there have been increased complaints by passengers against contaminated water and sub-standard quality of food served in these trains. Another such incident was reported on Tuesday when passengers travelling by the Shatabdi Express were served contaminated water to drink.
Shatabdi Express passengers travelling from Delhi to Dehradun on Tuesday protested against contaminated water with mud in it.
The Shatabdi Express trains expected to reach the destination by noon serve the passengers with tea. Passengers complained that the hot water served for the tea had mud in it. The passengers raised the issue to the train incharge for products and services, who stated that the water was filled from the railway station itself.
The agitated passengers on reaching the Haridwar railway station raised the issue and staged protests against the quality of water made available to the passengers.
Last year, Delhi High Court had probed into the case and questioned the Railway authorities over the increasing issues related to catering services provided by the Indian Railways.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar had also questioned the department's decision to increase the fares when it was not providing adequate services to the passengers. The matter was also place d before the Railway Board Chairman who was asked to give a report on the quality of water served.
