A 38-year-old woman, who had suffered severe burn injuries in one of the two major fire incidents in New Delhi on Monday, died in a hospital on Tuesday, taking the collective death toll to seven.

Mithlesh was among the three persons who were critically injured in a fire which broke out in a building near southeast Delhi's Ashram Chowk. She breathed her last in Safdarjung Hospital in the wee hours today, police said.

At least 23 people were injured in the fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, on the first floor of a building. The flames spread to other floors following a cooking gas cylinder blast.

The persons who died on the spot were Mamta (30) and her daughters Kritika (9) and Priyanka (11 months). Mamta and her daughters were stuck in their third floor flat in the building. In their attempt to jump to another floor, they fell on the flames and were charred to death. A case of causing death by negligence has been registered and documents related to the building are being vetted, a senior police official said.

In another fire incident, triggered by a gas cylinder explosion around 8 PM yesterday in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area, three persons had died and eleven others were injured. Walls of the house in which the cylinder exploded, and the one opposite it, collapsed under the impact of the explosion, a senior district administration official said.

The deceased were identified as Rajesh Goyal, Poonam and Soni Ram, all family members. The injured were identified as Naina (4), Girish (6), Krish (12), Naushad (8), Sonu Kashyap (60), Ahmad and Abbas.

"A case under IPC sections for causing death by negligence, causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others and negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter has been registered in connection with the incident," a senior official said.
