Delhi Court sends scam accused Delhi Development Authority engineer Kapil Deo to CBI custody for seven days

A Delhi court has sent an absconding Delhi Development Authority engineer to seven days' CBI custody, after he surrendered before the court on Tuesday, in a case of regularising an unauthorised property for a bribe.

Kapil Deo, who was named in the chargesheet along with nine others, surrendered before Special CBI Judge Poonam Bamba.

The court sent him to custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) till October 22 after the agency said he was required for custodial interrogation.

On October 4, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against 10 accused for offences under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

In its chargesheet, it named private firm executive Rajesh Agarwal as accused, along with his alleged associate Manish Tuli, North Delhi Municipal Corporation engineers Mahender Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Wadhwa, Satish Kumar, Naresh Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, RK Sethi, DDA engineer Rajesh Gupta and Kapil Deo.

The CBI had arrested Agarwal, co-founder and director of Micromax Technologies Pvt Ltd, and his associate Manish Tuli, when they were allegedly giving a bribe of Rs 30 lakh to the the municipal corporation officials for regularisation of an unauthorised property.

The agency had said that Agarwal and Tuli were giving bribe to the corporation engineers to regularise the unauthorised construction of a banquet hall owned by Tuli and the DDA official was acting as a middleman.

It had told the court that during the probe, Rs 1.1 crore had been recovered from the accused.

The agency said an FIR was registered on the information that Agarwal and Tuli had entered into a deal with engineers of the civic body to get clearance for construction of the banquet hall in Wazirpur area in exchange of bribe of Rs 50 lakh.
