Delhi cop thrashed black and blue in broad daylight

It is open sesame on men in Khaki in Delhi. Three days after two policemen were shot at in the nation's capital by four persons, including two juveniles, with one of the policemen dying on the spot, a Delhi police official was set upon and brutally beaten up in broad daylight in South Delhi by a group of men.

The police said ACP Amit Singh, posted with an anti-terror unit of the Delhi Police, was brutally assaulted near Lodi Crematorium in South Delhi around 4.30 pm. The ACP was on his way to the police headquarters when the incident happened.

Police said ACP Singh's car grazed against a motorbike. An altercation followed between him and the biker who was joined by other bikers, said to be his friends. The next thing you know, ACP Singh was the target of a brutal assault. He was set upon with iron rods, cricket bats and stones. Pushed to the ground, he was pummeled and kicked.

By then somebody informed the special cell of which ACP Singh was a member. Cops were soon at the spot and three of the attackers were apprehended at the spot. The ACP was rushed to AIIMS and admitted to the hospital's trauma unit. Police said an FIR has been lodged against the culprits.
