As Delhi heads for Assembly elections, Congress on Monday claimed that it was not out of the poll race in the national capital and ready to take on the BJP and AAP with full force. "Every Congress worker in Delhi was fully united, and we are ready to counter the BJP and the AAP in the coming Assembly elections with full force," DPCC chief Arvinder Singh said in New Delhi.

The party also said that being out of power was nothing new to it. "Being out of power was nothing new to the Congress party, as in 1977, when anti-Congress forces were in power and they had then claimed that Congress was finished. "But the Congress party, under the dynamic leadership of the then PM Indira Gandhi, threw out the communal forces within two and a half years, and returned to power," Singh said.

Addressing a gathering of party workers who participated in a meeting called for election preparations in south Delhi, the DPCC president also said that after the exit of Congress party, the condition of the national capital had become "worse". "In its 49-day rule, the AAP betrayed the confidence of the voters as they left the people of Delhi in the lurch to achieve its selfish political ends. The BJP, which used to take up the issue of women's safety and security while in the Opposition, was now keeping a studied silence despite the worsening law and order situation in Delhi," Singh added.

He said that attacks on the police personnel was a clear indication of the "worsening" law and order situation in the national capital. Another Congress leader Haroon Yusuf said, "Muslim community in Delhi would get another chance to teach a lesson to the communal and opportunistic parties. This community is now looking towards the Congress party, and in the forthcoming Assembly elections, they would support us."
