The CBI has arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s Principal Secretary Rajender Kumar and four others in a corruption case, reports ANI. CBI says arrested bureaucrat Rajendra Kumar had opened a front company with his school mate in 2006, which provided IT solutions. All 5 accused will be produced in Patiala court on Tuesday. CBI spokesperson RK Gaur said: “All 5 accused including Rajendra Kumar will be produced in Delhi's Patiala House court tomorrow. Allegations related to bribery and abuse of position against them, further probe underway.” Meanwhile, Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia alleged it was a controversy. He said: “Delhi CM's Principal Secy arrested,Dy Secy arrested & Addtional Secy transferred. This is all done to paralyse the CM office. Central Govt has now stooped very low by doing this. This is all a conspiracy.”
Meanwhile, BJP's Satish Upadhyay said that Kejriwal would've to answer to the people about the corruption charges.
This incident is only likely to intensify AAP- BJP political turf war in Delhi.
Last year, CBI officials had raided Kumar’s office at the Delhi Secretariat while investigating corruption charges against him, which led to an apoplectic barrage of tweets from Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
He had tweeted: “When Modi cudn't handle me politically, he resorts to this cowardice. Modi is a coward and a psychopath.” Back then the CBI denied raiding or sealing the CM’s office and claimed it was searching the house of Rajender Kumar, who was accused of corruption in computer purchases. The CBI claimed that it had found Rs 13 lakh cash and foreign currency worth Rs 3 lakh on raids on Rajender Kumar and another person.
This had led to a lot of reactions in the political circle with Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeting: “Sealing of a Chief Minister's office is unprecedented. I am shocked." Kejriwal had later defended his tweets by saying: “"I don't regret anything. I accept I use bad language, I speak from the heart. PM uses flowery language...but his actions are not good."
