A day after a police constable was shot dead by five unidentified persons, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay today urged police commissioner to provide sufficient equipment to police personnel to take effective action against the criminals.

In a letter to police commissioner B S Bassi, Upadhyay also expressed grave concern over the incidents of attack on policemen, chain snatching and eve-teasing.

"The fatal attacks on policemen show that the criminal elements are not afraid of the police. It is a serious matter. The police force should not only be vigilant but should also possess sufficient equipment to take effective action against the criminals," the Delhi BJP chief said in the letter.

Upadhyay said that since the festival season has started, the police should take precautionary measures to prevent eve-teasing and chain snatching of women.

"Police personnel should be available at public places in sufficient numbers and provide security to women. The people of Delhi should feel that the police are always with them. 'Delhi Police always with you' should not be a slogan only rather we should feel it," he added.

A Delhi Police constable Jagbir Singh was yesterday killed while another was injured when five unidentified men opened fire on them in Outer Delhi's Vijay Vihar area in the wee hours.

This is the such second incident in the last three days where criminals have brazenly shot at police personnel.
