BJP on Friday claimed a political atmosphere created by it forced DERC to withdraw the power hike of up to 7%. Delhi BJP unit chief Satish Upadhyay said his party would go to any extent to fulfill its commitment of cheap and properly-priced regular power supply to Delhi.

"Political atmoshphere created by BJP with media support forced DERC to withdraw power tariff hike," he said. Facing severe criticism from political parties, Delhi's power regulator DERC on Friday withdrew the power tariff hike which was announced last night.

Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission said the hike was rolled back "realising" that a number of power generation companies including NTPC, which supply electricity to the city, provided only part information about price of fuel such as coal and gas.

DERC had last night announced re-introduction of the power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC) surcharge to effect an increase of tariff by up to seven per cent from Saturday.

The Delhi BJP chief also said party is working hard to get water through Munak Nahar from Haryana to ensure that Dwarka Water Plant starts functioning which would bring water to parched West Delhi.
