Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti on Tuesday said the Delhi Assembly elections would be a real challenge for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"The BJP will face the real challenge in the Delhi Assembly polls, as they have faced no competition in the other states," Bharti said.

Furthermore, he expressed his party's desire to form the government in Delhi with a full majority. "We want to form a government with a majority, as we want to serve the people. We will work for their welfare," the AAP leader added.

Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had earlier today sent a status report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on government formation in Delhi.

Jung on Monday also held consultations with the leaders of the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the Raj Niwas to explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi.

In the meeting, representatives of all the parties expressed their inability to form the government in Delhi. The Lt. Governor met all the three party leaders separately. Now, the Lt.,Governor would be sending his report to President Pranab Mukherjee.

Delhi has been under President's Rule since February after Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government stepped down after 49 days in power.

The BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal coalition has 29 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The alliance had won 32 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls held last year, but three BJP MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections. The AAP had won 28 seats in the polls.
