Delhi: 'Abandoned' Mortar Shell found near Vasant Kunj, NSG called in

A mortal shell was found lying abandoned today in a village of Kishan Garh near Vasant Kunj here on Saturday, following which the National Security Guard (NSG) has been asked to step in.

A mortal shell was found lying abandoned today in a village of Kishan Garh near Vasant Kunj here on Saturday, following which the National Security Guard (NSG) has been asked to step in.

The entire area has been cordoned cordoned off and evacuated as a precautionary measure as per procedure. The NSG has been requested to send a team to carry out the necessary drill to examine, transport or diffuse the object.

Police said that after being informed by locals, a police team from Vasant Kunj police station found the suspicious object in a dustbin (in Kishan Garh village) this morning.

"At 8.30 am, a PCR call regarding a mortar shell lying found lying abandoned at Park Machli Wala locality was received. The entire area has been cordoned off and evacuated as a precautionary measure as per procedure. NSG has been requested to send a team for carrying out necessary drill to examine, transport or diffuse the object," said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, as an interim measure, the shell which seems old and corroded has been secured by a "bomb blanket" source from the District Bomb Disposal Squad.
