Deficit monsoon leaves only 18% water storage in Maharashtra

With June recording below normal rainfall due to weak monsoon, the level of water storage in irrigation projects in Maharashtra has declined to just 18% as compared to the corresponding period last year.

According to the latest report from the state Water Resources Department, there is 20% storage of water in large irrigation projects. In medium projects, the storage is 20% and in small ones, it is 13%.

In the entire state, there are 2,441 total irrigation projects in which the storage of water is 18%, the report said.

During the corresponding period last year, the water storage in the state irrigation projects was 31%.

Till the first week of July 2013, the water storage in large projects was 28%, in medium projects it was 25% and small it was 23% till July, the report says.
