A defamation case has been filed against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for saying at a rally in Maharashtra on March 6 that the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) killed Mahatma Gandhi.

The case was filed in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district on Tuesday.

The case, filed by Sanu Shukla, a lawyer and also the convenor of People for Legal Aid Society, contends that the investigative agencies and the Kapoor Commission had given a clean chit to the RSS from any direct or indirect role in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

Shukla said the comments made by the Gandhi scion not only hurt him but were also far from truth and aimed at maligning the image of the Sangh parivaar.
