CBI investigations into a de-recognised medical college, which had led to the arrest of three persons for allegedly trying to bribe senior home and health ministry officials, have revealed that the case was not about just one institution.

The agency has found that the case pertains to all 46 medical colleges barred by the government from admitting students for the coming one or two years because of substandard facilities and non- fulfilment of required criteria.

The arrested accuseds — Vaibhav Sharma and VK Sharma (both residents of Sector 44, Noida) — were not just inking a "deal" for the World College of Medical Sciences and Research and Hospital in Haryana's Jhajjar but for all 46 colleges, sources said on Wednesday.

Sources in the agency added that both Vaibhav Sharma and VK Sharma were allegedly counting on a senior Noida-based politically-connected mediaperson for actualising the deals. He is said to have quit the news channel he was working for just after the investigations started.

It is further alleged that the arrested accused first promised to help the Jhajjar institution but later brought all 46 debarred colleges on board.

The CBI had also arrested Kunwar Nishant Singh, associated with the Jhajjar medical college, after filing a case of criminal conspiracy, taking and offering illegal gratification by corrupt or illegal means to influence public servants. It alleged that Nishant and his father Narender Singh were managing the affairs of the World College.

"It is alleged that they have been trying to get orders of debarment overturned through and in this regard have been contacting various persons who have assured to help them in lieu of huge illegal gratification for unknown public servants," the FIR alleged.

It was further alleged that Nishant was in touch with Vaibhav Sharma and VK Sharma -- who claimed to have close contacts with persons claiming proximity with senior health ministry functionaries. They had assured the college management of assistance in getting favourable orders. "However, huge illegal gratification has been demanded by them in this regard. They are in conspiracy with Narender Singh and Kunwar Nishant Singh, and tried to obtain favourable orders from government officials," the agency has said.
