Dead body of a soldier recovered from Siachen glacier after two decades

The mortal remains of a soldier has been found ​from the Siachen glaciers 21 years  after he went missing. The person was identified from a letter which the Army personnel recovered from his pocket. The body is still intact as temperatures in Siachen at 17,000 feet above sea level are well below freezing point.

Havildar Tukaram V Patil went missing on February 27, 1993. While traveling in the treacherous territory he was believed to have fallen into a ravine and his body was never recovered till army got it through a chance discovery on October 12. A resident of Sangli district of Maharashtra, Tukaram is survived by wife and three children.

Incidentally Tukaram's brother NV Patil also lost his life in a similar fateful incident way back in 1987, though his body was never recovered. Tukaram belonged to 4 Maratha Light Infantry Battalion. According to media reports, family of the long deceased soldier has been informed of the discovery of the body.The body is still stuck in the glacier due to bad weather.
