In a rather horrific turn of events, RTI activist and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Chandra Mohan Sharma, who was believed to have been burnt alive in a car fire in Delhi, was found by the police in Bangalore, living under an assumed identity. Sharma was arrested and brought back to Delhi on Thursday, the police said.
Sharma has allegedly admitted to having killed a mentally-unstable man and set him on fire in an attempt to fake his own death, the Hindustan Times reported. He reportedly confessed to faking his death so as to live with an unmarried woman, who has also been brought back from Bangalore along with Sharma.
Sharma has been booked under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder, the report said.
What was believed to be Sharma's charred body was found inside his car on May 3 after passersby informed the police that the vehicle caught fire. Early on, Sharma's relatives alleged that he was murdered and was also getting threatening calls from the mafia whose deed he had exposed through RTI.
