A day after Dera followers went on a rampage, vandalising property and torching hundreds of vehicles, a red-faced Haryana government on Saturday suspended the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Panchkula. It also sacked the Deputy Advocate General who accompanied Ram Rahim to court, carrying his bag.

IPS officer Ashok Kumar was suspended after the police cited a clerical error, to explain its laxity in implementation of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC. Despite the order imposed on August 22, thousands of Dera followers managed to gather in Panchkula.

While Punjab and Haryana High Court has already reprimanded the administration for its failure to implement prohibition order, the police also failed to check the followers who brought weapons along with them.

According to police, five pistols with 79 rounds, besides 2 rifles with 52 rounds were recovered along with iron roads, dandas, hockey sticks and ten petrol bombs. As many as 524 persons were arrested in Panchkula and 24 vehicles were seized.

"We suspect that convoy of cars alongwith the Dera Chief had some Dera followers who would have brought ammunition and weapons alongwith them," said a source in the police. The cars entered Panchkula without any checking, however, only two of the five cars were allowed to enter the court premises.

Sources also told DNA that thousands of followers who had been sitting in Sector 4 had hidden large number of stones, wooden rods with the women, exposing the loopholes in the police security checking. Some bags which were recovered from the spot after the rampage contained petrol bombs.

Coming down heavily on the Haryana government, the Court had also questioned why state's Deputy DG accompanied the Dera Chief as seen in a video. The state's Deputy AG, Gurdas Singh Salwara's services were terminated by AG Baldev Mahajan after he was seen accompanying Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim after the verdict.

The Court had also asked Haryana government to submit facts on how many cars were there and how many passengers travelled in each cars.
